Metro Bank supports Eastbourne’s Big Futures Show
Colleagues from the Eastbourne Metro Bank will be chatting to school children and their families about a potential career in banking at Eastbourne’s Big Futures Show on April 26th.
“Young people often believe there is a need for a raft of qualifications and lots of barriers to enter banking, but at Metro Bank this is not the case as we hire for attitude and train for skill,” explains Grace Pressland, Recruitment Manager, Metro Bank. “We are constantly feted for our customer service and that correlates directly with the type of colleagues we hire. We want people who love to work in teams and we look for zest, enthusiasm and empathy more than GCSEs, A Levels, degrees or even past banking, or financial services experience.”
Research shows that nearly one in five UK workers are looking for a new job and the UK's top banks have 3,000 vacancies.
“At Metro Bank we work with our communities to develop new skills and employ from varied backgrounds,” explains Eastbourne Metro Bank Local Director Tom Meggison. “We deliver employment and skills programmes specifically supporting a range of diverse communities, candidates who have left care, people with offending backgrounds, disabled people offering personalised support that removes barriers to applying for suitable roles (CV writing, interviewing skills etc.). We run a number of apprenticeship schemes and more than half (52%) of our apprentices are from the 40% most deprived communities in the UK. We are near parity with workforce identified as females. 49% of our new starters are identified as Black, Asian, ethnic minority.”
Meggison: “The Big Futures Show is an ideal opportunity for colleagues to let attendees know more about the exciting career opportunities and options that are available for anyone considering working for Metro Bank.”
