Metro Bank Brings the Banking Revolution to Birmingham

9th July 2019
  • New seven-day-a-week banking experience to open in city centre
  • Creates 25 new jobs for the local community
  • 4,500 safe deposit boxes available

Metro Bank, the revolution in British banking, is set to open a brand-new store in Birmingham this summer, creating around 25 new jobs for local people. The store, located on the corner of New Street and High Street, will combine face-to-face banking with state-of-the-art technology, providing residents and businesses with a customer-focused and convenient banking experience.

Customers will be able to visit the store seven days a week, with no appointment needed, and open a personal or business account on-the-spot, leaving with their debit card in hand, along with internet and mobile banking set-up. 4,500 safe deposit boxes will also be available, with customers able to reserve a box from a month before the store opening.

Known for its exceptional customer service, Metro Bank recently achieved the top spot in the CMA’s Service Quality Survey1. The bank continues to grow its store network at a time when other traditional players in the industry are closing branches. The Birmingham city centre store will be the first of four to open in the region this year followed by new stores in Solihull, Merry Hill and Wolverhampton.

Local companies will benefit from a Local Business Manager ready to help them run and grow their businesses, as well as having free access to the Forum of Private Business’ wealth of bespoke resources and free use of the store’s meeting space.

Local residents and businesses are also encouraged to attend the store’s free events that are hosted throughout the year, from networking sessions, to charity fundraisers and family craft events.

Birmingham City Council Leader, Cllr Ian Ward said: “Birmingham’s residents want a well-connected and vibrant city centre, it’s great to see another new business investing in UK’s second city. Birmingham City Council will be working closely with local communities and traders over the next few months to plan for future growth in the city and make sure Birmingham remains attractive, successful and thriving.”

Craig Donaldson, CEO at Metro Bank added: “Metro Bank’s continued expansion across Britain is empowering communities and businesses, and providing them real choice in who they bank with.

“We’re thrilled to bring the banking revolution to local residents and business in Birmingham, and we look forward to our store becoming a real hub for the local community in the city.”

The bank gives colleagues a Day to AMAZE – a day, when they would normally be working, to volunteer their time or skills or give back to their local community. In advance of the store launch, Metro Bank colleagues in Birmingham recently spent their Day to AMAZE cleaning up the city centre along with other local businesses to keep the area looking beautiful.

All stores are open at the most convenient time for local people, from 8am to 8pm Monday to Fridays, 8am to 6pm on Saturday and 11am to 5pm on Sundays and bank holidays, 362 days a year.

The store will also be the bank’s first Midlands location to have a Metro Bank University on the premises – the bank’s internal training academy for colleagues, which offers over 75 courses.
