Metro Bank’s Sutton store has teamed up with Integrating Sutton to hold a practical session on banking and finance for the borough’s growing new Hong Kong resident population.
Sutton has a growing population of former Hong Kong residents - over 2,000 Hong Kongers have already settled in Sutton - with 3,000 more set to arrive this year. Integrating Sutton is working hard to integrate the former residents who have little or no knowledge of Sutton and the UK systems, as well as the services and facilities available. Residents were keen to learn more about the finance market, including how to set up a bank account, information on savings, mortgages, loans, transfers and credit cards, as many have found that the UK banking system is very different to that in Hong Kong. Integrating Sutton approached Metro Bank for help.
“As a community bank we already deliver financial education workshops to young children, those about to leave the care system and former armed forces personnel,” explains Sutton Metro Bank Local Director Roshan Patel. “We were delighted to be able to support this growing new community and help them understand UK finance and banking and how we can help.
“More importantly, Integrating Sutton received positive feedback both during the event and in phone calls and emails afterwards. The new Sutton residents enjoyed the presentation and many commented on how useful and beneficial the information shared was, as well as the evident effort Metro Bank put in to making even the newest of arrivals to the UK feel welcome and accommodated.”
Metro Bank is unique among UK banks as customers can pop into a store to set up a current account without an appointment and leave the store with their account set up, complete with their own printed ready to use debit card.
