Metro Bank Supports Those That Serve Ahead Of Reserves & Armed Forces Days

Metro Bank, the UK’s community bank, supports serving members of the UK’s military and commemorates both Reserves Day on June 23rd and Armed Forces Day on Saturday June 26th.

As a signatory of the Armed Forces Covenant Metro Bank is dedicated to supporting current and former military members and their families.  The Bank actively supports any of its colleagues who wish to join the Armed Forces Reserves and offers an extra ten days annual paid leave on top of a colleague’s usual allocation to conduct essential training. If colleagues are called upon for active duty, Metro Bank has created a one click notification to line managers to allow Reservists to be swiftly deployed and support the UK when they are called upon.

Metro Bank’s lead business support manager, Andrew Crawford is an active Reservist. ““Metro Bank has always supported me with my reserve service, allowing me to deploy to support operations and complete training.  This makes serving as a reservist much easier and allows me to have a career at the bank, whilst also serving my country.”

Beyond supporting our Reservists, Metro Bank also proactively recruits ex-military personnel, as the Bank recognises the value and broad set of skills that can be transferred into its teams and colleagues. The Bank also recognises the issues that can arise from being posted abroad so recognises BFPO (British Forces Post Office) addresses and enables digital banking by phone and via its app.

“We’re proud to be part of the covenant, but we’re even more proud of our colleagues who have served the UK before and will go on to serve our country however they’re needed in the future,“ said Metro Bank managing director David Thomasson.
