Colleagues from the UK’s community bank, Metro Bank, recently completed another ‘Winter Walk’ challenge to help raise £1,345 for Evelina London Children's Charity.
Evelina London Children’s Charity provides compassionate, trailblazing care for children, young people and their families receiving care at Evelina London Children’s Healthcare. This is one of only two specialist children's hospitals in London caring for more than 103,000 children and young people each year.
Crawley colleagues decided to take their second ‘Winter Walk’ challenge in February which is a notoriously dreary month, choosing to walk in some the harshest weather of the year to challenge themselves and raise funds for the charity.
Abi, Russell, Doug, Jason, Linda, Manraj, L A, and Nicky participated in the challenge which involved runs, commutes, long walks and trips to the coffee shop.
“As a community bank, we are delighted to have taken on this challenge to help positively impact the lives of those experiencing health issues,” explains Abi Bowden, Crawley Metro Bank’s Local Director. “I’m not only proud that we completed 2545 km but we also raised a whopping £1,365. This money will help provide equipment and technology to make the hospital feel more like home for children and their families. I wasn’t much of a weekday walker before, however, I have really felt the benefit of walking every day and whilst I might not do quite the same distance (over 300km), I am determined to keep up the habit for its health and wellbeing benefits.”
Russell Harvey, Crawley Metro Bank’s Area Director added: “I was privileged to be included and I’m hugely proud of Abi and the whole team for the superb achievement. Well done to team Crawley for powering through this challenge and raising so much money for such a deserving charity.”
