Bankers Spend Day Swapping Pounds for Hounds

13th July 2023

The UK’s community bank, Metro Bank, gives every colleague a Day to Amaze – essentially a paid day off to support a local charity or good cause. 18 Metro Bank colleagues from the Bristol and Cardiff stores and the Amaze Direct call centre volunteered for the animal charity Auras Dogs UK.

Auras Dogs is a small foster based non-profit shelter based in Bristol, Dursley and the surrounding areas. Metro Bank famously welcomes dogs in all its stores, providing complimentary water bowls, organic treats and branded bandanas for its four-legged VIPs.

The Metro Bank colleagues included Bristol’s local business manager, Becky Rexworthy, team coach, Jez Orren, Cardiff’s local business manager Tegan Delbridge, Amaze Direct representative Austin Scammell and Bristol’s customer service representative Saher Mahajan. Together they helped the charity by digging and removing debris to prepare for a new area for the animals to play. ‘We had a tremendous day out of the office working at the charity’’ explains Bristol Metro Bank Local Business Manager, Becky Rexworthy. ‘’Being given a paid day off by Metro Bank to fundraise to volunteer for this charity is a real benefit. It was an honour to work with truly inspirational people and the charity has grown from strength to strength over the last couple of years, despite all the challenges faced.’’

Bristol Amaze Direct Team Coach, Jez Orren added, ‘’As well as the dirty work, we had so much fun walking the dogs. We had to make sure the animals weren’t too hot during the walk and we gave them lots of attention along the way – fantastic fun.’’

Metro Bank’s Bristol store is located at 40-46 Broadmead, Bristol, BS1 3HB.The store is open Monday – Saturday 8:30am - 6pm. Sunday: 11am - 5pm. Bristol Metro Bank is part of the Safe Space scheme – the store is available to anyone experiencing, or at risk of domestic abuse, providing the opportunity to safely call a helpline, support service or loved one.
