Swindon Metro Bank takes on allotment to donate food
Based in Swindon, The Harbour Project, is a charity providing support to individuals seeking asylum or granted refugee status in the local area. In addition to helping visitors receive a fair outcome from their asylum claim, the charity organises English and maths lessons as well as a range of cultural activities.
Zezita Vas, Customer Service Representative, was the chef of the day and organised the barbecue which took place at the store’s very own allotment. Whilst some colleagues were getting everything prepped for the barbecue, others got busy digging and tidying up the allotment.
“As a community bank, we are always finding new ways to serve our community,” says Yani Fernando, Swindon Metro Bank’s Local Business Manager. “We are very pleased to have worked with Swindon Borough Council to acquire this allotment which we will not only share with our colleagues and customers, but also the community at large. We are currently preparing the space to plant fruits and vegetables which will ultimately be donated to homeless people and those in need. Thank you to everyone for the incredible effort put into cleaning and getting the allotment ready for planting. We are excited and can’t wait for our first harvest.”
Zezita Vas, Swindon Metro Bank’s Customer Service Representative added: “A huge thank you to our colleagues, customers, family and friends who helped us raise £206 to support such a worthy initiative. Barbecuing, gardening and playing bingo was a lot of fun. We also enjoyed having some former colleagues join us. Not only were we able to raise money for charity, but also enjoyed a spending time together out of the office. We look forward to hosting more of these events to continue to support our local community.”
Metro Bank’s Swindon store is located at 1-4 Regent St, Swindon SN1 1JQ. The store is open Monday – Saturday: 8.30am - 6pm and Sunday: 11am - 5pm.
