Chance to Shine

3rd July 2025

Metro Bank, gives every colleague a Day to Amaze – essentially a paid day off to support a local charity or good cause. Five Metro Bank colleagues – Ben Sizer, Glen Hall, Greg Deadman, Giuseppe Di Cecco and Nowrin Rashid  – have just volunteered to help create a new Guinness World Record in the Chance to Shine challenge to create the largest cricket lesson.

On June 23rd at London’s Lord Cricket Ground, 943 children created the world record for the largest cricket lesson in a single venue. (The previous record was for 645 children at Edgbaston back in 2022.) The challenge was organised by the charity Chance to Shine which aims to give all children the opportunity to play, learn and develop through cricket. The charity supports over 600,000 young people each year delivering cricket in both schools and street cricket clubs.

Metro Bank Tunbridge Well’s Local Business Manager, Greg Deadman was one of the volunteers: “This was a superb day indeed and one I will not forget in a hurry. It was a privilege to be a part of this amazing challenge and support Chance to Shine as they gave the kids a day to remember. There was a real sense of community to the whole day it was very well organised in such an iconic location and the children had so much fun whilst creating a world record.”

The Metro Bank colleagues spent the day supporting the children who were participating in the record attempt by helping serve lunch and ensuring every child played an active role in their cricket lessons.
