Highlights
Chester Town Crier David Mitchell officially welcomed Metro Bank to Chester, while Samantha Dixon MP for Chester North and Neston led the ribbon cutting with The Lord Mayor of Chester, Councillor Sherin Akhtar, joined by Metro Bank’s Non-Executive Director, Nick Winsor, Kerry Reynolds, Director of Retail and Business Banking and Lisa Wortley, Chester Metro Bank’s Local Director. Chester’s leadership and store team were busy meeting new customers on the Bank’s first day of opening.
Metro Bank brought a Fan Zone to Chester over two days in a nod to the Bank’s cricket partnership with the ECB, offering free bucket hats and tote bags, as well as supporting local business Krum Gelato which provided complimentary sorbets.
Metro Bank’s Local Director, Lisa Wortley, commented: “It has been great to have such a warm welcome from the Chester community. Today is a milestone for us as we grow our presence. We’re ready to serve Chester with our in-person relationship banking and business support and in turn drive local economic growth.”
Speaking at a Metro Bank business event for local businesses on Thursday evening, Jamie Christon, CEO of Chester Zoo and Chair of Marketing Cheshire said: “This is an exciting moment for Chester. In a time when many high street banks are closing their doors, Metro Bank is opening theirs. That decision speaks volumes. It shows a commitment to people, to local connection, and to the belief that physical presence — real people behind real counters — still matters.”
Samantha Dixon, MP for Chester North and Neston said: "It’s a real pleasure to welcome Metro Bank to Chester city centre. Their commitment to being a true community bank is a fantastic addition to our high street — offering not just vital banking services, but a friendly face and real support to local people and businesses. This ribbon cutting marks more than just a new branch — it marks a step forward in strengthening our local economy and community spirit. I look forward to seeing the positive impact Metro Bank will have in the heart of Chester."
Metro Bank Chester is based at 23-25 Foregate Street, Chester CH1 1HD. The store is now open Monday to Friday 9.30am to 5pm and on Saturdays from 9.30am to 4pm. Metro Bank has the longest Saturday opening hours than any other bank.
