Manchester Metro Bank Joins Forces for Great British Clean Campaign

The UK’s community bank, Metro Bank, gives every colleague a Day to Amaze – essentially a paid day off to support a local charity or good cause. Lucia Belardo and Ali El Fiki, colleagues from Manchester Metro Bank, joined forces with over 60 volunteers representing various Manchester businesses to revitalize Manchester City as part of Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British Clean campaign.

Organized by CityCo and Manchester City Centre Business Improvement District (BID), in collaboration with Manchester City Council, the cleanup initiative aimed to enhance the city’s aesthetic appeal and promote environmental consciousness.

The clean up efforts concentrated on key areas including St Ann’s Square, Market Street, Cross Street, Thomas Street, and Exchange Square.

Volunteers undertook a range of activities including litter removal, chewing gum and cigarette disposal, doorway sanitization, graffiti and sticker removal, replanting of seating planters, awareness campaigns addressing abandoned litter, and refurbishment of street furniture.

Manchester Metro Bank Assistant Store Manager, Lucia Berlado, reflecting on the initiative, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “It was inspiring to see the community come together to beautify our city. Small actions like these can make a big difference in promoting a cleaner and more inviting environment for everyone.”

Manchester Metro Bank Customer Service Representative, Ali El Fiki echoed Lucia’s sentiments, emphasizing the importance of corporate responsibility in community engagement. “Participating in initiatives like the Great British Clean allows us to actively contribute to the betterment of Manchester and showcase our dedication to environmental stewardship.”
