The UK’s community bank, Metro Bank, gives every colleague a Day to Amaze – essentially a paid day off to support a local charity or good cause. On October 31st, forty Metro Bank colleagues from various teams came together to participate in this year’s London Poppy Day, helping to raise over £38,000 at Euston and St Pancras stations for the Royal British Legion. Colleagues manned stalls at both stations in London, selling poppies and other commemorative items, such as brooches, to support the fundraising efforts.
The Royal British Legion is the UK’s largest Armed Forces charity, founded in 1921 to provide support for the men and women who have served or are currently serving in the British Armed Forces, as well as their families.
The funds raised will go directly to the Royal British Legion, helping to provide essential support for serving and ex-serving personnel and their families. The donations will contribute to recovery programs, expert advice, and assistance, ensuring that those who have served the nation receive the care and guidance they need.
Metro Bank colleagues described the event as an incredible way to give back to the Armed Forces community while also having the opportunity to bond with fellow team members and work alongside other volunteers, including veterans and active Armed Forces personnel.
“As a proud signatory of the Armed Forces Covenant, it was a wonderful opportunity for Metro Bank to show its continued support for the Armed Forces community and their families,” said Simon Webb, Head of Operational Resilience at Metro Bank and RAF veteran. “We are grateful for the chance to contribute to such an important cause.”
In 2021, Metro Bank received the prestigious Gold Award from the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme, honouring its ongoing efforts to support the Armed Forces.
