Metro Bank has opened a new store in Gateshead today, Friday 5th December. Gateshead marks the bank’s first location in the North East, as part of its strategy to expand its physical presence in local communities across the country.
Metro Bank Gateshead is the bank’s 78th store, based in Retail World Team Valley. The store will be open six days a week, from 9:30am – 5pm Monday to Friday and 9:30 – 4pm on Saturday and also has an external ATM for cash access.

At a time when many high street banks are closing their doors, this investment is a strong vote of confidence in our community. Metro Bank offers relationship banking, putting in-person experience at the forefront of its customer service. Every store has a dedicated local business manager and counter service with customers able to make cash deposits. Customers can also bank online, via the Metro Bank mobile banking app or using telephone banking from UK-based contact centres. Additionally, Metro Bank Gateshead offers a Safe Deposit Box service for personal and business customers and has a Safe Space for domestic abuse victims requiring a safe location.
The opening of the Gateshead store marks Metro Bank’s third new store in 2025, following recent openings in Chester and Salford.
