METRO BANK SUPPORTS TAKE 5 WEEK – ENCOURAGING CONSUMERS TO BE AWARE OF POTENTIAL SCAMS & FIGHT FRAUD

Metro Bank, the UK’s community bank, supports UK Finance’s 2021 Take Five week which kicks off on September 13th encouraging consumers to STOP and CHALLENGE before sharing personal and banking information to PROTECT themselves against potential scams and fraud.

Take Five is a national awareness week that offers straight-forward and impartial advice to help everyone protect themselves from preventable financial fraud. This includes email deception and phone-based scams as well as online fraud – particularly where criminals impersonate trusted organisations. The focus for this year is The Art of Saying No.

“Fighting scams is an ongoing battle – with the scammers trying to exploit things we do, need in our everyday lives or events and twisting it to fool us and steal our hard earned money”, explains Adam Speakman, head of fraud and investigations, Metro Bank.  “Fraud is an ongoing conflict in which we - together with UK Finance and the rest of the financial industry - will never stop battling against the scammers to protect our customers. Fraud education and awareness is a key component in everyone’s armoury to identify and stop it.”

Fraud is a major threat to UK consumers who are bombarded with potential scams through email, texts and social media platforms and apps. Metro Bank takes this type of crime very seriously and publishes current scam themes on a monthly basis to warn customers and the general public about potential dangers.
