The UK’s community bank, Metro Bank, gives every colleague a Day to Amaze – essentially a paid day off to support a local charity or good cause. Twenty-five colleagues from across Metro Bank’s central London stores chose to take on a mammoth task for their Day to Amaze by walking nine miles in aid of Royal National Lifeboat Institution, a charity saving lives at sea around the British coastline.
The 13 stores involved were Cheapside, Clapham High Street, Clapham Junction, Earls Court, Fulham Broadway, High Street Kensington, Holborn, Kings Road, Liverpool Street, Moorgate, Piccadilly, Putney and Tottenham Court Road.
Colleagues split into teams of four, each choosing different routes with the aim of visiting a set number of Metro Bank stores across central London.
“As a community bank, it was rewarding to raise funds for a charity dedicated to saving lives for almost 200 years,” explains Adam Johnson, area director at Metro Bank. “Although we are used to being on our feet all day in store, ten miles left most of us with sore legs and the odd blister – but it was worth every ache and pain. Huge thanks to all the colleagues who participated and everyone who helped us raise a fantastic £500.”
