What the account doesn’t come with

The Metro Bank Foreign Currency Account doesn’t come with a cheque book or debit card – so you can’t take money out at a cash machine. There is also no overdraft facility and you don’t earn any interest on money in your account.

We will charge for some transactions and services such as transferring money to non-Metro Bank accounts and an Auditor's Certificate of Balance. You can find all the details of our transaction and service charges in the downloadable PDF below.

Opening a Foreign Currency Account

To open a Foreign Currency Account, you'll need to have a Metro Bank Business or Commercial account. Eligible accounts are:

  • Business Bank Account
  • Business Instant Access Deposit Account
  • Commercial Current Account
  • Community Current Account

To apply, come in store or call your Relationship Manager.

  • Can I open a savings account in a different currency?

    No, we don’t offer savings options on our Foreign Currency Accounts.

  • Can anyone open a Foreign Currency Account?

    Business customers with a Metro Bank Business Current Account or Business Instant Access Deposit Account can open this kind of account.

  • I’m trading in more than one currency. Do I need to open a separate account for each currency?

    Yes – We have separate accounts for each type of currency available.

  • Can I make withdrawals and deposits in store?

    Cash deposits and withdrawals are permitted in store on the US Dollar and Euro accounts.

    Cash deposits are not available on any other currency where we offer accounts. If you’d like to withdraw or exchange cash please check the availability by calling one of our stores or the Business Team on 0345 08 08 508 at least two working days prior to the transaction.
